CLASSROOM ASSESSMENT SCORING
SYSTEM (CLASS)

CFS utilizes the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) to
support teacher preparations and professional development. A
certified CLASS Observer typically observes preschool teachers for two
to four cycles, noting the quality of teacher-child interaction before
rating teachers on a seven-point scale in the following domains:

1 Emotional Support
       Considers what teachers do to help children develop warm,
       supportive relationships, feel comfortable, and experience levels of
       independence.

Dimensions:
Positive Climate, Negative Climate, Teacher Sensitivity, Regard for
Student Perspectives

2 Classroom Organization
       Considers how teachers manage children’s time, attention, and
       behavior to maximize learning opportunities. Looks at interactions
       that help children develop skills to regulate their own behavior.

Dimensions:
Behavior Management, Productivity, Instructional Learning Formats

       Instructional Support

3 Refers to specific behaviors that support children’s cognitive
       development and language growth

Dimensions:
Concept Development, Quality of Feedback, Language Modeling
