positive, ongoing, goal-oriented
relationships with families. Parents attend
monthly educational meetings where they
learn about early childhood development
and ways to enhance their child’s
cognitive, physical, social and emotional
skills. By participating in the program,
parents are building connections with
other families and gaining knowledge or
resources in their community. At each
Head Start center, a parent committee
meets to provide input in activities planned
for the center and take a leadership role in
planning and hosting parent education
events and meetings. Parents serve as
decision makers through shared
governance of Head Start programs.
Parents receive training in fiscal, program
design, service delivery, human resources,
as well as health and safety, and child
supervision. In the process, they increase
their understanding of business
management for early childhood education
services.
